Batik on Silk
Pictures and textiles

Batik is an ancient way of decorating fabric which uses melted wax as a resist to the dying process and when repeated time and again produces many different layers of colour in whatever shape you make.

I use a mixture of paraffin and beeswax which is just pliable enough to not crackle too much and gives me the finish that is best for my images. The intensity of the cold water dyes give me the vibrancy for which my work is known.

Most of my work reflects my love of plants and landscape and the colours are a celebration of the energy which I perceive in the subject.

Visitors to the studio are always welcome whenever I am working and I am happy to demonstrate my techniques.
